Quote from THE DARK KNIGHT, the new Batman movie out this summer.
“Some men aren’t looking for anything logical,” Michael Caine’s butler Alfred tells Bruce, who’s trying to decipher the Joker’s motives. “Some men just want to watch the world burn.”
I hadn’t had the chance to see a Kindle yet, and … it was really neat! One thing I liked about it is that for me, it would be excellent for reading while treadmilling. I can’t do regular books on the treadmill. The print is too small, and I can’t get the spines to stay open. I’m always worried I’ll lose balance, and fall down and break my teeth. Funny story behind that fear …
Anyhow, with the Kindle, you can adjust the font size and it shows up perfectly in any type of light, even direct sunlight. And it’s easy to turn the page with just a tap.
Unfortunately, due to the price, I think I’ll have to just enter every contest I can find where a Kindle is being given away … I’ve been lucky, lucky lately!! I even won a Amazon gift e-certificate from L. A. Mitchell’s blog!!
Yeehaw! (I can say that, because I’m from Texas) Note to readers: L.A. has a excellent blog going, lots of very good discussions, so check her out!
You see, I can’t stop blogging completely. Especially when my bud and daily sounding board, Cindy Miles, is off on her vacation. Cindy, have a shave ice at Matsumoto’s for me!
I’m finishing my read through of my page proofs for NIGHT FALLS DARKLY today, so I can ship them out tomorrow. Hopefully I’ll get a good handful of pages in too.
I just wanted to let you know I’ll probably be scarce over the next month and a half. Book 2 of the Shadow Guard Series, SO STILL THE NIGHT, is due to my editor on August 1st, so I’ll be disappearing into my writing cave, and making sure the book is the best it can be.
For you!
For those of you who are visiting my website and my blog for the first time, please feel free to read through the archives. In August, there will be some exciting updates to the website and blog, as well as regular contests leading up to the release of NIGHT FALLS DARKLY.
I’m sure I’ll see you before then, here on the blog. I can’t help but yammer some days! But I wanted to let you know if I do go a long span without checking in, it’s because I’m “immersed”.
If you’ve been with me for a couple of months, you’ll remember that Oscar “The Man”, and I, were interviewed by the very talented writer, Christie Craig, for an article in CAT FANCY Magazine. NYT Bestselling author, Nina Bangs and her feline Muse are also featured.
The article, “Novelists’ Feline Muses” is on stands this month in the July edition!
So if you like cats, or you like writers, go check out a copy!
Everyone have a great morning. I’ve got a lot of work to do today on SO STILL THE NIGHT — but am taking a break to see KUNG FOO PANDA. Woo hoo!
I just saw Matt Lauer interview Jacki Collins about her latest “steamy” novel. Too funny! Whoever scheduled the features for today, must have known how hysterical that would be.
Matt says, looking a bit sheepish, “I haven’t quite finished reading this one …”
To which Jacki responds something like, “You don’t read my books! You never have!”
He asked some great questions though.
Then my doorbell rang, and I had to peek out the blinds to see who it was, since I’m still in pj’s. Fed Ex man! Page proofs from Penguin for NIGHT FALLS DARKLY!! I’ve got to get ten pages written today, though, before I can take a peek!
Thank you to the Bay Area Writer’s League for inviting me down to Webster, TX. to speak to their group last night. I had a great time listening to the reading, and hearing their awesome plans for next year — and speaking to them! They were a diverse, interactive and friendly group.
Today … what’s on everyone’s plate?
I’ve got to tackle some things that have piled up … I’ve got to send out a bio and other info for the Buns-N-Roses Romance Literacy Tea that’s taking place in October in Richardson, TX. If you’re in the area the weekend of the 11th-12th, check out their website. I’ll be participating in a big booksigning with a host of other talented authors, and then I’ll also be a host author at the Tea! Sherrilyn Kenyon is the keynote speaker.
I’m also helping out with the Lone Star Writing Competition, so need to wrap up a few things there.
Oh … yes, and I’ve got to write some pages, and kick an unruly chapter into shape.
That was my imitation of Plankton (i.e. “Spongebob! You’ve got to learn to be more assertive!)
Sophie Jordan (a/k/a Sharie Kohler) is giving away an Advance Reading Copy of her August Avon release, SURRENDER TO ME.
ISBN: 006133927X
She had lost nearly everything . . .
When tragedy left her penniless and alone, Lady Astrid Derring did whatever it took to survive. She dismissed half her staff, borrowed gowns, and subsisted on cucumber sandwiches from the galas she attended. She endured the wagging tongues of the ton and the indecent proposals from noblemen who deemed her ripe for the plucking. Finally, she has found a way to escape this shame and restore her good name. But it will require a perilous journey to Scotland, where she will come face-to-face with danger … and a sinfully handsome rogue who may be the greatest threat of all.
Any gentleman would lend his hand to a lady in distress, but handsome, rough-hewn Griffin Shaw is no gentleman, and Astrid is far from safe in his company. Accompanying her through the Highlands is a small price to pay for luring her into his bed. Entranced by her boldness, enchanted with her beauty, he is determined to thaw her cold heart. However, he soon finds himself wanting more than a brief affair with the proper lady. Nothing less than the total surrender of her heart will satisfy him.
Hey all! Just a quick post to check in and let you know I’m still alive. How about you? Still alive on your end?
I’ve been writing — not as much as I ought to be — and preparing for a presentation I’ll be giving this Thursday evening to the Bay Area Writers League (BAWL). It’s also the end of the year, school-wise. I’m a parent, so that means I’ll have two kids home for the summer to … well, make writing all that much easier. She chuckles anxiously.
Big congrats to Cindy Miles, whose awesome new Signet romance, HIGHLAND KNIGHT releases today! If you haven’t gotten a copy, go get one soon!
And this is the last of the garden bragging photos! It’s getting hot here, and … things (including me) are beginning to wilt!
