Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I’m sorry to have been so absent from the blog over the past week, but I’ve had the flu. Yuck! I haven’t been sick in a very long while like this, and it’s just no fun. I’m blaming the cart at the grocery store for whatever foul germ I must have picked up.

Thank you to those of you who have been visiting the site, and also to those of you who have sent me such wonderful e-mails about NIGHT FALLS DARKLY. I’m a bit behind on responding, but I will very soon! I really can’t describe how much those e-mails mean to a writer.

If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, travel safely. My family is traveling, and I’m looking forward to seeing my relatives — even though they may quarantine me in some back room, and shove my Thanksgiving meal under the door (with a side order of Theraflu!).

Over at Silk & Shadows, this week we’re talking about: Romance Heroines!

So very sad …

And FUNNY!

Click here if you’d like to pay your respects to author Mary Patrick Kavanaugh on the tragic death of her first novel.

The author invites others to also bury their own “dead dreams and dashed hopes” in virtual cemetery plots.

Friday!

I’ve been busy with copy edits, but spent the morning in the kitchen making Cranberry Orange Bread. Every year my kids’ school chooses a day when students can bring homemade bread up for the teachers and staff as a Thanksgiving thank you.

And I certainly believe teachers and school staff deserve a big thank you. Teaching really does take a special kind of person.

Did anyone go see TWILIGHT last night? Who’s going this weekend? I haven’t read the book(s), but the movie looks great.

If you’re wandering through blogs this morning — I’ve blogged at Silk & Shadows about “deadline food”, and Thanksgiving recipes!

I never know how to title my blog posts

So I just won’t today. How’s that for lazy writing?

I spent last evening with Houston Bay Area RWA, and subjected them to my blatherings on writing. What a fun group of writers. I had a super time, and hope I didn’t torture them too badly. Bwahahah!

How many of you are into Steampunk? Steampunk is a sort of a funky reimagined Victorian era, with a high emphasis on quirk and gadgets. If you’ve read H. G. Wells or Jules Verne or watched the movies WILD WILD WEST or THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN, you’ll get the idea. NIGHT FALLS DARKLY has some steampunk elements, and I’ve had fun expanding on that in SO STILL THE NIGHT.

Here’s my dream desktop — created by Jake von Slatt of the Steampunk Workshop (photo also by von Slatt).

What’s everyone up to today? I have copy edits on SO STILL THE NIGHT due MONDAY! I’ll be busy with those.

Contest Winner!

Jane! You are the winner of Kerrelyn Sparks’ ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A VAMPIRE and Sharie Kohler’s KISS OF A DARK MOON! Congratulations!

Jane, if you’ll just contact me through my website with your mailing address I’ll get those books right out to you!

I do apologize for posting the winner nearly two days late! Geez! I’m going to have to fire my personal assistant (Kim Lenox)!

But I did have a great weekend, how about you? I went to the Texas Renaissance Festival, which — after an awful amount of traffic to get there — was tons of fun! We rode the huge swings, and watched the jousting tournaments (alas, my Green Knight was soundly slain) and heard a great drum and bagpipe group called Tartanic.

Now it’s Monday — and back to reality! I’ll blog more tomorrow …

Cruising along!

How is everyone?

Don’t forget the contest. One lucky winner gets a copy of Kerrelyn Sparks’ ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A VAMPIRE and Sharie Kohler’s KISS OF A DARK MOON. And yes, both are signed by the authors. All you have to do to enter is post a comment to my blog before November 15th at midnight.

So what have I been up to over the past couple of days? I had a fantastic time with the Katy Budget Books’ paranormal book club on Wednesday night. What a great group of readers. Lots of super questions, and it was really thrilling to hear everyone’s thoughts on NIGHT FALLS DARKLY.

In addition to that I’ve been working on a proposal for Book #3 of the Shadow Guards. I’m also preparing a speaking presentation for the Bay Area RWA group that I’ll give next week. Once that’s done, I’ll dive into intensive writing again.

L. A., if you’re a James Bond/007 virgin, I’d actually recommend watching CASINO ROYALE first off. Then you might enjoy going back to watch DR. NO or FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE. I enjoyed the Sean Connery and Roger Moore 007 eras. They are great movies for a lazy Sunday afternoon on the sofa.

I’m blogging at Silk and Shadows today — talking about writing on deadline. Come by and check it out! Anyone who posts there (or here!) will be entered into the book giveaway contest!

Quantum of Solace

What a cool title for a book and a movie! Are you going to go see it?

I took this picture while in NYC. Yes, that’s Daniel Craig, and he’s got a bottle of Nestea sprouting out of his head.

I’ve seen all the 007 movies. My first time going to a theatre to see one was FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, and I remember exactly where I was — at the air force base theater at beautiful Fort Howard, Panama. I was in the eighth grade, I think. Memories! They make me smile.

A Contest!

This weekend I signed books with authors Kerrelyn Sparks and Sharie Kohler.

Big news! Kerrelyn’s book, ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS A VAMPIRE is at #12 on the NYT Bestseller list and #41 on USA Today’s. And Sharie Kohler is also Sophie Jordan, the USA Today Bestselling author of historical romances. Sharie was signing copies of KISS OF A DARK MOON, which is Book 2 in her Moon Chaser’s Series.

I bet you’d like some free books, wouldn’t you?

WAHOO! And I’m the woman to give them to you. Anyone who posts in response to my blog between now and (oh, pick a date!) November 15th at midnight will be entered in a drawing to win a signed copy of each book. And a couple of other items I’ll throw in the mailer too.

Hey, and check out Silk and Shadows! We’ve got some great ongoing posts this week about dark heroes, and my post will go up tomorrow!
